What Are Ebooks?
Ebooks are, well, books. But in a format where they can be delivered or downloaded online. You can write them yourself, employ writers, use public domain content, and create your ebooks from many sources. And just about any subject can be covered — just as many, if not more, than what a traditional publisher might release because you can tailor your tomes to niche markets. Travel guides, how-to manuals, mystery, romance, science fiction, self-help, technology, religions… just about any subject is fair game as long as there is a market of ready buyers. (one of the best ways to check for is to scan the bestseller lists on Amazon. And not just the overall list but also the ones for categories and subcategories.)
Also, you won’t have to rely on an editor or publisher telling you whether a book will be published. And you won’t have to rely on a bookstore to put your book on its shelves.

Tips for earning money from amazon ebook publishing
Publishing an ebook is actually a rather simple process once you understand each step in the process and how to get it done properly.
Here are the steps to writing and earning money from amazon self publishing?
1. Clarify your purpose and mission
First, you must understand why you’re writing your book. Is it a passion of yours? Are you just trying to make a quick buck? Are you trying to become a better writer?
In my experience, authors who are passionate about writing will have the most success. Authors who are just in it for money or aren’t excited about writing tend to struggle when the inevitable challenges come up.
2. Create book ideas
Once you understand your mission and your purpose, it’s time to create a list of potential book ideas.
Here are some great questions to help generate some book ideas:
What are you passionate about?
What message or story do you have to share?
3. Market research
Market research is a simple process of simply looking at the potential markets in which you may want to write a book to learn from what’s working and what’s not working. It shouldn’t take a lot of time, and it should be fun and interesting to see what other authors have done and how successful they have been in the markets in which you wish to write.
4. Choose your best book idea
If you’re like most creative types, you’ll probably end up with a huge list of potential book ideas. So the challenge isn’t usually coming up with ideas; it’s deciding on an idea to start with and complete.
I use a simple, powerful question to help me choose that one book idea and get started:
“if i could only write one book before i died, which one would it be?”
5. Creative writing
I call the first part of writing creative writing because it’s all about using your creativity.
Most new writers try to do too much when they start writing. They get this great idea, write 200 words and then think, “oh shoot, i can’t remember if there are 30 or 31 days in november!” And so you minimize your writing document, open up your web browser and start googling to do some research.
The problem with this is that it will destroy your writing output and productivity (by the way, there are only 30 days in november).
It’s like telling a young child to draw a picture and then every 5 minutes you offer them a cookie. You’re not going to get that picture done anytime soon, and it’s probably going to look like crap with all those crumbs all over it.
If you get to a point where you know you’re going to have to do some research, look up facts and figures, or make some other editorial changes later, simply mark the spot in your document and move on. I usually write three x’s like this: xxx anywhere i know i need to come back to later for future research. The key for maximum productivity during your writing sessions is to keep the creative process moving. Save the editing for later or you’ll find the stop-and-start writing style will really slow you down. That’s my personal experience.
If you follow these simple rules, you’ll find your writing productivity will increase dramatically. For me, my writing productivity increased by 3-4 times by simply separating my editing from my creative writing. Imagine if you could write 3-4 books in the time you had previously been writing only one. Do you think that would make a difference in your results? Of course, it would!
6. Editing and extra research
Now that your creative writing is done, it’s time for some research and editing. Once you’ve gone back over all your xxx’s and done the necessary research, you’ll want to go back and do another round or more of edits.
If your book is very long, you may want to break your editing sessions up into specific segments such as. This will help make your editing sessions more focused and productive instead of trying to fix everything at once.
Here are some examples of recommended editing sessions:
Go over the timeline in your book and make sure every scene and sequence fits chronologically)
Go through each of the scenes with one particular character to make sure the character is consistent and well developed.
Good dialogue takes a lot of work. It doesn’t just happen the first time around. Go through the dialogue to make sure it flows well. Sometimes just changing one word can make a world of difference. If you’re having trouble with a particular dialogue, try acting it out by reading the lines aloud. You’ll often be amazed at how it can help clarify issues that need to be fixed.
After you’re done self-editing your book, it’s time to hire a professional editor. You can get great editors at relatively cheap prices nowadays. Always make sure to get at least three quotes before you hire someone. Otherwise, you risk making an impulsive decision that can cost you a lot of money and time.
I recommend the folks at ebookeditingpro.com. They do great work and provide detailed feedback for writers (which is very important). Most of them have experience editing for big publishers, and their rates are very reasonable.
7. Title creation
Once your book has been edited and is ready to go, you’ll need to come up with a final book title so that you can finalize the cover design and formatting of the book
8. Cover design
The cover design is very important. You want your cover to stand out, look professional, have a title that’s very easy to read when shrunk down to 60×90 thumbnails (that’s how many people will see your book cover on amazon and on their ereaders).
9. Formatting for kindle
You’ll have to format your ebook for kindle
10. Publish your ebook on kindle
Upload your ebook at www.kdp.amazon.com
Why not publish my ebook on ibooks, kobo, barnes & nobles and smashwords?
You might be wondering why i only covered the steps for publishing an ebook on kindle here. That’s because most authors will earn more income publishing their ebooks exclusively on amazon with kdp select than they would be publishing on all the other platforms combined.

There are a few things you can do to help boost money from amazon ebook publishing sales.
1. Target an audience
Your book has a topic, and this topic is bound to be interesting to someone, somewhere in the world. Your job, once you’ve identified this topic, is to figure out which demographic you should direct your marketing toward to boost your book’s sales. The demographics can help determine the types of marketing you should do as well. For example, if you are writing teen fiction, you’ll want to market your book in teen venues. To further boost your ebook sales, you could consider using social networking, teen magazines, and other outlets specifically directed toward this demographic.
2. Edit and proofread
One of the most important aspects of a successful ebook is its credibility in the marketplace. If your ebook is free of errors, you will be seen as a reliable author, thus making your ebook more desirable to readers. To make sure your ebook is on the same level as the competition, it’s a good idea to use an editing and proofreading service to make sure that your ebook’s grammar, spelling, and punctuation are sound. Also, ebook editing services can advise you about your ebook’s content to make sure that it flows well and that its structure is logical.
3. Use a flashy cover page
When you go into a bookstore, there are books that catch your eye and make you stop to look at them. The key to increasing your sales visually and thus boosting your ebook’s sales is to find this eye-catching factor and convert it into something that will also catch the eye as a thumbnail onscreen. If the cover intrigues readers, they will stop to check out the book and see if the content reflects the catchy visual. If your cover is simple and boring, it’s likely to be overlooked.
4. Promote your ebook online
With the creative freedom offered by the Internet, there are unlimited ways to promote your ebook online and boost its sales. Some of the more popular forms of promotion are creating a webpage with search engine optimization (SEO) features, writing a blog that tells readers about the book and using social media marketing. There are dozens of ebook publishing tips available, so do your research before marketing your ebook. All of these options give you the creative freedom to combine and cross-promote them as you please, so it’s very easy to start a buzz about your ebook on multiple platforms, thereby increasing its sales.
5. Publish on multiple platforms and in multiple formats
Accessibility is an essential way to encourage readers to buy your ebook. Readers are not going to go out of their way to find your book on that one specific platform for that one specific device. If there is too much effort involved, readers can easily forget about your book and move on to another one. The way to avoid this is to publish your ebook on as many platforms as possible, like Kindle, Amazon, etc., and also to make sure it can be accessed on all kinds of ereaders.
6. Set a realistic price
If owners of e-readers wanted to pay $10 for a book, they would buy it in paperback. The whole purpose of ebooks is to make them affordable and compact. Pricing your book too high will discourage readers from reading it because they might not want to pay such a high price for a virtual item. Conversely, if the price is too low, readers might not see the book’s value, thinking that it might be of lower quality. There are a few ways to encourage readers to make a purchase and thus boost your book’s sales, such as offering freebies and deals. Limited-time deals will attract more readers, especially those who typically wouldn’t buy the book in the first place. Alternatively, making the first ebook free allows you to charge for sequels because people will already be familiar with the book’s topic and style.
Although it might seem as if the work involved in publishing an ebook ends after it’s released, there’s much more that goes into boosting ebook sales than meets the eye. If you follow these tips on how to boost your ebook sales, your work will have significantly more impact!
